When mum bought her first mobile phone, we set the Sex and the City theme song as her ring tone, turned it up very loud and extended the ring time, just for fun. She didn’t worry too much about it, because, ‘no-one ever called her’. She wondered if this was because… she never gave out her number!
One fun and funny thing the three of us did together was a meditation course, which taught us ways to become incredibly calm, centered and relaxed. Mum was particularly funny in this class, always making tiny sigh noises, when our instructor would say “let’s do one more Salute to the Sun”.
At the end of our six weeks we had our final, longest and most meaningful meditation. All was quiet, the room was dark, and the candles lit, the entire room was in a deep trans-like state. About 10 minutes into this meditation, you could have heard a pin drop, then suddenly mum’s phone began to ring. “De de de de, dede, de de dedede…” So loud, so long and so painfully obviously the sex and the city theme song. Then came the noise of our mum searching around in her handbag, dropping things, shuffling things, in a desperate attempt to silence the phone… but she didn’t find it. You could feel the frustration in the room, nobody laughed.
To say the least it was an embarrassing night but we laughed all the way home! One thing we can be sure of now… mum always turns her phone off because you never know… perhaps someone could call!
